Afro-Cuban Ensemble
Cuba’s mixture of sounds, influenced by different continents, created the rich and original texture of its local music. Cuba’s musical styles cover a large range: Farmers songs - “Guajira” and “Changüí” - Buena Vista Social Club’s style; Dancing music - Son Cubano and Cha Cha - both of which are the foundations of Salsa; African tribe’s music and modern one - Ragaton, Timba, and Cuban Jazz.
In the course of the year we will examine the different styles in Cuban music, choose themes and gather a repertoire for a concerto by the end of each semester. The course is for any musician who’s interested in knowing Cuba’s musical style, for singers and players of any instrument.
